Frequently Asked Questions

Everything fleet owners and mineral transporters need to know about AIS-140 and VLTD compliance in Uttar Pradesh.

What is AIS-140 certification?
AIS-140 is the ARAI/ICAT-tested government standard for Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) in India. It defines requirements for GPS/GLONASS positioning accuracy, cellular connectivity, an SOS panic button, and a standardized data format so the device can report location data to state and central transport authorities in real time.
Is tnavIC device mandatory in UP?
The mandate is for any AIS-140 certified VLTD, not a specific brand. tnavIC's device meets the AIS-140 standard and is built to work with UP's VLTS and VTSDGM systems, so installing it satisfies the government's compliance requirement for eligible vehicles.
What's the cost of AIS-140 tracking device?
Pricing depends on the vehicle type, feature set (SOS button, dual-SIM, fuel sensors, etc.) and fleet size, with better rates for bulk orders. Share your requirements through the enquiry form below and our team will send you a tailored, no-obligation quote.
How long does installation take?
Most installations take about 30-45 minutes per vehicle. Our certified technicians handle the 3-wire plug-and-play setup and verify a live location ping before signing off, so the device is confirmed active before they leave.
Is AIS 140 GPS mandatory for vehicles in Uttar Pradesh?
Yes, for defined vehicle categories. The UP Transport Department requires AIS-140 VLTDs on public service vehicles (buses, taxis, school vans) registered after 1 January 2019 under Rule 125H, on National Permit commercial vehicles, and on hazardous-material carriers, with compliance cross-checked through the Vahan portal and UP VLTS.
What is VLTD in Uttar Pradesh?
VLTD stands for Vehicle Location Tracking Device — the AIS-140 certified hardware fitted to a vehicle that continuously transmits GPS location, speed and status data. In UP, this data feeds into the state's Vehicle Location Tracking System (UP VLTS, vlts.up.gov.in) and the central Vahan portal for monitoring and enforcement.
Which vehicles require AIS 140 GPS in UP?
Public service vehicles (buses, taxis, school and app-based cabs) registered after January 2019, all National Permit commercial vehicles, hazardous-goods carriers, and mineral/sub-mineral transport vehicles registered under the Directorate of Geology & Mining's VTSDGM system.
Is AIS 140 GPS required for mining vehicles in Uttar Pradesh?
Yes. Any vehicle transporting minerals or sub-minerals (sand, stone, moram, etc.) must carry an AIS-140 compliant VLTD registered on the VTSDGM portal and a MINETag. Without both, the vehicle is flagged as illegal transportation and blocked from generating e-Transit Passes (e-MM-11 forms).
What is the UP Mining VTS system?
The Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) is run by the Directorate of Geology & Mining, Government of Uttar Pradesh, through the vtsdgm.up.in portal. It provides real-time tracking of mineral-transport vehicles, verifies that a vehicle is within a geo-fenced mining area before issuing a transit permit, and helps the department curb illegal mining and transportation.
What is MINETag in Uttar Pradesh mining?
MINETag is an RFID tag issued by the UP Directorate of Geology & Mining. It's affixed to the windshield of a mineral-transport vehicle and mapped to that vehicle's registration and VLTD on the VTSDGM portal. Handheld readers at mining sites and check-gates scan the tag to verify the vehicle's identity, load approval and permit status.
